Read for the Record
Linton-Stockton Elementary Students participated in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record™ this year by reading The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. Jumpstart’s world record breaking campaign that brings children and adults together to read the same book, on the same day, in homes and communities all over the world. This years campaign was trying to break a previous record of 2,000,000,000 people reading the same book. The campaign also kicks off Jumpstart’s yearlong program, preparing preschool children in low-income neighborhoods for success in school and life. Since it’s inception in 2006, the campaign has reached more than 3 million children and more than 750,000 books have been donated to children in low income neighborhoods.
Linton-Stockton students helped set this new world-record online, by reading the book, at www.wegivebooks.org. We Give Books donated a book to preschool students in need each time a class or students read this book on line.
I want to thank all the teachers that participated in this activity. It was a great opportunity to promote reading and help give to others in need. Please enjoy the pictures.
