Taylor Swift and Nick Cannon visited LSE

That's right Nick Cannon and Taylor Swift visited LSE this Wednesday through a live webcast sponsored by Scholastic. Many students listened to Taylor Swift answer questions from students about the importance of reading and how being a good reader has helped in writing songs and performing her music. Then she performed live for all the students singing one of her new songs off her new album.

I want to thank the teachers who chose to provide this opportunity for our students and Mr. Cain Cooksey for helping out with the tech side of the webcast.

Wow! What a neat opportunity.

Pizza Plate Kids

Pizza Plates is a reward system Mrs. Tennant uses to make transitions in the classroom more efficient. Students are recognized for doing a great job during transitions with stars that accumulate for the week. At the end of the nine weeks students with their name on the weekly winning plates at least three times may participate in the pizza party.

I must say the pizza was excellent. They were nice enough to share some with me.

Congratulations, to all the students who earned this treat!

Alpaca Visit

The students in first and third grades recently got to learn all about alpacas. Tom and Carman from Windchime Alpacas shared these unique animals with the students. Students learned about the animals and even got to pet them! First grade students have been reading all about animals and their young. The third grade classes have been studying different types of animals in science class. Learning about alpacas was a lot of fun for our students.

Read for the Record

Linton-Stockton Elementary Students participated in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record™ this year by reading The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. Jumpstart’s world record breaking campaign that brings children and adults together to read the same book, on the same day, in homes and communities all over the world. This years campaign was trying to break a previous record of 2,000,000,000 people reading the same book. The campaign also kicks off Jumpstart’s yearlong program, preparing preschool children in low-income neighborhoods for success in school and life. Since it’s inception in 2006, the campaign has reached more than 3 million children and more than 750,000 books have been donated to children in low income neighborhoods.

Linton-Stockton students helped set this new world-record online, by reading the book, at www.wegivebooks.org. We Give Books donated a book to preschool students in need each time a class or students read this book on line.

I want to thank all the teachers that participated in this activity. It was a great opportunity to promote reading and help give to others in need. Please enjoy the pictures.
